{"id":410734,"date":"2021-08-25T09:01:46","date_gmt":"2021-08-25T07:01:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=410734"},"modified":"2021-08-25T09:06:57","modified_gmt":"2021-08-25T07:06:57","slug":"old-openview-decoders-have-stopped-working-this-is-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/broadcasting\/410734-old-openview-decoders-have-stopped-working-this-is-why.html","title":{"rendered":"Old Openview decoders have stopped working \u2014 this is why"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Openview clients with older decoders are being cut off from the service and notified that they need to buy a new decoder.<\/p>\n<p>Several Openview customers have contacted MyBroadband to complain about the move, saying that they were promised a once-off decoder purchase would give them access for life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a Sassa pensioner, I am disgusted with this type of business,\u201d one Openview customer told MyBroadband.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not what their advert implied when I bought the product.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Openview\u2019s marketing campaign at launch was, \u201cPay Once. Enjoy Forever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MyBroadband asked Openview about the decision to stop supporting older decoders.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the satellite TV service said that, unfortunately, technology is advancing rapidly, and the older models do not support Openview\u2019s latest software upgrades and functionality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe decoders affected have been in the market for about 8 years,\u201d Openview stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCustomers will have to replace the decoders to enjoy uninterrupted support, PVR compatibility and all the benefits of Openview Connect. Hence the E04 message.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Openview said that it communicated with affected customers via bmail, which is a message sent directly to the decoder advising them that the service will eventually switch.<\/p>\n<p>The message states:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Dear Viewer, Due to the rapid pace of technology, the decoder you are using can no longer be supported in terms of software upgrades that are required.
