For the launch phase, Telkom will only support eSIM enabled smartphones.<\/p>\n<p>eSIM is a digital Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) that is built into devices and cannot be removed.<\/p>\n<p>It will allow subscribers to activate a tariff plan from Telkom without having to use a physical SIM card, the operator said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHistorically, most of our customers have used traditional card SIMs. These enable Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to identify a user and then to authenticate that the user is serviced by that MNO,\u201d said Andrew Dawson, Telkom executive for product portfolio management.<\/p>\n<p>Telkom will offer customers an eSIM voucher pack which will contain a QR code with the necessary steps to install an eSIM profile on any eSIM-enabled handset.<\/p>\n<p>eSIMs will enable customers to switch between networks more easily if they wish to temporarily change to another network, Telkom said.<\/p>\n<p>It said that eSIM-enabled devices can have up to eight different profiles installed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most customers will be able to have more than one SIM card; a dual SIM setup, as most eSIM enabled devices will still have a physical SIM slot available,&#8221; said Dawson.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;eSIMs are an enhancement of Telkom\u2019s SIM offering and no changes have been made to the provisioning process of mobile services for eSIM services,&#8221; Dawson explained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When provisioning mobile services with an eSIM, one must follow the normal activation process to activate a mobile service on an eSIM.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Smartphones supported at launch include devices from the following manufacturers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Apple \u2014 iPhone XS \/ XR \/ 11 \/ 12, and Apple iPad 7th generation and higher<\/li>\n<li>Huawei \u2014 40 \/ 40 Pro \/ 40 Pro+ and P40 \/ P40 Pro \/ P40 Pro+<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other devices, such as wearables that are eSIM enabled, will be supported at a later stage.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Now read:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/gadgets\/352155-apple-watch-with-esim-south-african-pricing.html\">Apple Watch with eSIM \u2014 South African pricing<\/a><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Telkom has announced the launch of eSIM support on its mobile network.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":23,"featured_media":408036,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_sma_x_autopost_status":"idle","_sma_x_autopost_error":"","_sma_x_post_id":"","_sma_facebook_post_id":"","_sma_instagram_post_id":"","_sma_threads_post_id":"","_sma_x_attempts":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[14],"tags":[46671,35,109],"class_list":["post-411044","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-cellular","tag-embedded-sim-esim","tag-headline","tag-telkom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/411044"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/23"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=411044"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/411044\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/408036"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=411044"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=411044"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=411044"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
