{"id":413346,"date":"2021-09-09T17:10:46","date_gmt":"2021-09-09T15:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=413346"},"modified":"2021-09-09T17:18:26","modified_gmt":"2021-09-09T15:18:26","slug":"department-of-justice-hit-with-ransomware-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/413346-department-of-justice-hit-with-ransomware-attack.html","title":{"rendered":"Department of Justice hit with ransomware attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development in South Africa says it has suffered a ransomware attack which has also affected its website.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued on Thursday, the department said the attack happened on the evening of 6 September and has led to all its information systems being encrypted and unavailable to both internal employees as well as members of the public.<\/p>\n<p>All electronic services provided by the Department including issuing of letters of authority, bail services, email, and the departmental website are affected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur IT teams are working tirelessly to restore services as soon as is practically possible,\u201d the department said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChild Maintenance payments for month-end have already been processed and will therefore not be impacted by the current system outage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Manual recording equipment will be used to ensure that court proceedings continue as scheduled.<\/p>\n<p>The Office of the Chief Master is currently using a manual process to provide bereaved families with the necessary documentation that they need to bury their loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department\u2019s IT experts are working together with state agencies to investigate and resolve the problem.
