{"id":41591,"date":"2012-01-18T09:36:57","date_gmt":"2012-01-18T07:36:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=41591"},"modified":"2012-01-18T09:37:56","modified_gmt":"2012-01-18T07:37:56","slug":"google-joins-sopa-protest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/41591-google-joins-sopa-protest.html","title":{"rendered":"Google joins SOPA protest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Google Inc\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/314567-Google\">Google<\/a> is the latest in a host of large websites, which include online community <a title=\"Reddit\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/395501-Reddit\">Reddit<\/a> and free encyclopaedia <a title=\"Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/384363-Wikipedia\">Wikipedia<\/a>, who will protest on January 18 against the <a title=\"Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/395503-SOPA-Stop-Online-Piracy-Act\">Stop Online Piracy Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While the other larger sites will black out their websites for a set period of time, Google will make its opposition to the Act clear by raising awareness using the Google search engine homepage.<\/p>\n<p>A Google representative commented, \u201cLike many businesses, entrepreneurs, and Web users, we oppose these bills because there are smart, targeted ways to shut down foreign rogue Web sites without asking American companies to censor the Internet.
