{"id":416780,"date":"2021-10-04T12:26:31","date_gmt":"2021-10-04T10:26:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=416780"},"modified":"2021-10-04T23:48:33","modified_gmt":"2021-10-04T21:48:33","slug":"new-whatsapp-voice-note-feature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/416780-new-whatsapp-voice-note-feature.html","title":{"rendered":"New WhatsApp voice note feature"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Popular messaging app WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to continue listening to a voice note after leaving a chat.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wabetainfo.com\/whatsapp-is-working-on-a-global-voice-message-player\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WABetaInfo has discovered the feature<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 dubbed global voice message player \u2014 is currently under development for the beta version of WhatsApp on iOS.<\/p>\n<p>The global voice message player lets users start a voice note and then exit a chat, view and reply to messages in other conversations in the app while continuing to play back the voice note.<\/p>\n<p>While playing, a window will be pinned to the top of the app with an option to pause or stop playing the voice message.<\/p>\n<p>This feature will be handy for those multi-tasking users without the time to listen to minutes-long voice notes.<\/p>\n<p>It does not allow for playing voice notes while the app is minimised.<\/p>\n<p>The image below shows what the feature currently looks like in the beta test.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/WhatsApp-voice-message.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-416786\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/WhatsApp-voice-message.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"861\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/WhatsApp-voice-message.jpg 960w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/WhatsApp-voice-message-372x400.jpg 372w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/WhatsApp-voice-message-400x430.jpg 400w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/WhatsApp-voice-message-768x826.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>WhatsApp also recently added new functions to its disappearing messages feature on beta versions of the app.<\/p>\n<p>On the official app, the feature currently only allows users to set messages to disappear after seven days.<\/p>\n<p>WhatsApp Beta versions on iOS now also let you choose 24 hours or 90 days.<\/p>\n<p>There is also an option to enable a &#8220;Default Message Timer&#8221; under the app&#8217;s privacy settings, which will turn on disappearing messages by default for any new chats.<\/p>\n<p>These two new features are now available on WhatsApp Beta for iOS and WhatsApp Business Beta for iOS&gt; The features are expected to become available on the WhatsApp Beta for Android.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/WhatsApp-Disappearing-Messages.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-416788\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/WhatsApp-Disappearing-Messages.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"711\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/WhatsApp-Disappearing-Messages.jpg 960w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/WhatsApp-Disappearing-Messages-450x400.jpg 450w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/WhatsApp-Disappearing-Messages-484x430.jpg 484w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/WhatsApp-Disappearing-Messages-768x682.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>WhatsApp states that it is not currently accepting new testers to its beta programme, as it has reached a maximum number of users participating in it.<\/p>\n<p>However, its new <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/406232-new-whatsapp-multi-device-support.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>multi-device support<\/strong><\/a> is open for testing by the public in a separate beta.<\/p>\n<p>That feature allows WhatsApp users to run the app on multiple devices without requiring their smartphone to be actively connected to the Internet.<\/p>\n<p>To try out the new feature, update to the latest version of WhatsApp and follow the steps below for your particular platform:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Android:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tap the three-dot menu at the top-right of the app<\/li>\n<li>Select &#8220;Linked Devices&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Choose &#8220;Multi-Device Beta&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Tap &#8220;Join Beta&#8221; and follow the instructions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>iOS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tap Settings at the bottom-right of the app<\/li>\n<li>Select &#8220;Linked Devices&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Select &#8220;OK&#8221;
