Eskom has been granted a 13.3 percent increase by the National Energy Regulator of SA today. This is in addition to the 14.2 percent increase already granted in December.<\/p>\n
The decision by the Nersa subcommittee came after Eskom requested a 53 percent tariff increase at public hearings last month.<\/p>\n
Nersa’s six-member subcommittee had to take into account more than 40 oral and 300 written submissions it had received at the hearings before making a decision.<\/p>\n
Nersa has not allowed Eskom to backdate the increase to April, and has advised that tariffs should be increased from the beginning of July instead.<\/p>\n
The regulator said it supports the smoothing of tariffs and sees tariff hikes of 20-25% per annum over the next three years.<\/p>\n
