{"id":420142,"date":"2021-10-27T12:15:47","date_gmt":"2021-10-27T10:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=420142"},"modified":"2021-10-27T18:12:54","modified_gmt":"2021-10-27T16:12:54","slug":"dune-screenplay-written-in-ancient-ms-dos-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/420142-dune-screenplay-written-in-ancient-ms-dos-program.html","title":{"rendered":"Dune screenplay written in ancient MS-DOS program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Screenwriter Eric Roth wrote the screenplay for Dune in an old MS-DOS program that isn&#8217;t available anymore called Movie Master 3.09.<\/p>\n<p>Roth\u2014known for his work on Forrest Gump, Munich, and most recently Dune\u2014revealed in an interview in 2014 that he does all of his screenwriting using the MS-DOS program Movie Master 3.09.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I work on an old computer program that&#8217;s not in existence anymore. It&#8217;s half superstition and half fear of change.&#8221; Roth says in the interview.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote the screenplay for Dune in 2018. In 2020, while on a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.barstoolsports.com\/blog\/2518656\/oscar-winning-screenwriter-eric-roth-explains-the-unique-ways-he-writes-his-films\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barstool Sports podcast<\/a>,<\/strong> he explained that he is still using Movie Master for all his work, including Denis Villeneuve&#8217;s Dune.<\/p>\n<p>Roth opens an MS-DOS window after booting up his Windows XP computer to run Movie Master.<\/p>\n<p>He also uses what looks like an original beige IBM Model M keyboard \u2014 a true connoisseur.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So now I&#8217;m in DOS. Nobody can get on the internet and get this,&#8221; said Roth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have to give them a hard copy. They have to scan it and then put it in their computers, and then I have to work through their computers because you can&#8217;t even email mine or anything.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You can&#8217;t get to it except where it is.
