{"id":421482,"date":"2021-11-06T03:53:29","date_gmt":"2021-11-06T01:53:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=421482"},"modified":"2021-11-06T03:55:57","modified_gmt":"2021-11-06T01:55:57","slug":"google-killing-sync-for-very-old-chrome-browsers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/421482-google-killing-sync-for-very-old-chrome-browsers.html","title":{"rendered":"Google killing sync for very old Chrome browsers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alongside the launch of Chrome 96, Google is dropping support for its sync feature in older versions of the browser, the company said in a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/chrome\/thread\/133907349\/sunsetting-chrome-sync-for-chrome-m48-and-older?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Information such as browsing history and saved pages will not be synced to other devices for those using older browsers.<\/p>\n<p>This change will affect anyone using Chrome Browser M48, and these users will need to update to Chrome M49 or higher to continue using the sync feature.<\/p>\n<p>Google had previously mentioned the change when it <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/415596-google-fixes-19-security-flaws-with-chrome-94.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released Chrome 94<\/a><\/strong>. The company has now indicated that the change will go live when it launches the stable build of Chrome 96.<\/p>\n<p>Chrome 48 was released at the start of 2016 and offered <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Google_Chrome_version_history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">several fixes and improvements<\/a><\/strong> over previous builds.<\/p>\n<p>Those who still wish to sync their search history and saved items to other devices are advised to update from the M48 build.<\/p>\n<p>Even those running outdated versions of Windows, such as XP, can update to keep the sync feature.
