{"id":422454,"date":"2021-11-12T00:25:50","date_gmt":"2021-11-11T22:25:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=422454"},"modified":"2021-11-12T00:48:32","modified_gmt":"2021-11-11T22:48:32","slug":"ios-15-2-beta-can-censor-nudity-in-messages-app","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/422454-ios-15-2-beta-can-censor-nudity-in-messages-app.html","title":{"rendered":"iOS 15.2 beta can censor nudity in Messages app"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apple released its iOS 15.2 beta earlier this week, adding its \u201cCommunication Safety\u201d feature to messages.<\/p>\n<p>MacRumors <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2021\/11\/09\/apple-messages-communication-safety-ios-15-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a><\/strong> that the feature aims to protect children from sexually explicit materials sent or received through the messages app.<\/p>\n<p>The messages app will automatically blur images in which it detects nudity and warn the user of the content.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommunication safety\u201d is an opt-in component of Family Sharing, meaning it is not enabled as a default.<\/p>\n<p>When \u201cCommunication Safety\u201d was <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/child-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">initially announced<\/a><\/strong>, Apple indicated that it would provide an option to notify a parent if their child had viewed a nude image in the messages app.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-422456 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Communication-Safety-800-x-533V.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Communication-Safety-800-x-533V.jpg 800w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Communication-Safety-800-x-533V-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Communication-Safety-800-x-533V-640x426.jpg 640w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Communication-Safety-800-x-533V-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Apple did not implement this component of \u201cCommunication Safety\u201d as it could pose a risk to children in households subject to parental violence or abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, Apple will offer guidance to all children \u2014 including those under the age of 13 \u2014 on getting assistance from an adult they trust.<\/p>\n<p>The scanning of images is done on the device not to compromise the end-to-end encryption of messages.<\/p>\n<p>It is important to note that \u201cCommunication Safety\u201d is separate from the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/408854-iphones-will-scan-your-photos-for-child-abuse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">controversial anti-child sexual abuse material feature<\/a><\/strong> that Apple plans to implement in a future iOS build.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Now read: <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/422218-ios-15-2-beta-adds-anti-stalking-feature.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">iOS 15.2 beta adds anti-stalking feature<\/a><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The iOS Messages app can blur nude images as part of its &#8220;Communication Safety&#8221;
