{"id":422568,"date":"2021-11-12T11:46:44","date_gmt":"2021-11-12T09:46:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=422568"},"modified":"2021-11-12T12:07:06","modified_gmt":"2021-11-12T10:07:06","slug":"big-gmail-outage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/422568-big-gmail-outage.html","title":{"rendered":"Big Gmail outage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Numerous Gmail users have reported issues with accessing the email service on Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/downdetector.com\/status\/gmail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/downdetector.com\/status\/gmail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <strong>global<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/downdetector.co.za\/status\/gmail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>South African Gmail Downdetector pages<\/strong><\/a> showed steep increases in reports of issues from around 10:30.<\/p>\n<p>Several Twitter users across Europe, the UK, and Japan have also reported problems accessing the service.<\/p>\n<p>Many users said that they received error messages while trying to log into the mobile app. Those who managed to log in, were unable to send emails.<\/p>\n<p>Some suggested the problem was with Gmail&#8217;s IMAP servers and SMTP servers, while the web interface was accessible for them.<\/p>\n<p>Several Gmail and Gmail Workspaces users could access their account, but were not receiving any emails sent to their address.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gmail?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@gmail<\/a> Hi! (@hideout) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hideout\/status\/1459084075944316930?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 12, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>At the time of publication, Google had not acknowledged any issues and stated its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/appsstatus\/dashboard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Workspace Status Dashboard<\/strong><\/a> was not showing any problems.<\/p>\n<p>MyBroadband also observed erratic behaviour on Google Analytics, Google&#8217;s web analytics services that tracks and reports website traffic.<\/p>\n<p>We contacted Google for comment on the issues but did not receive feedback by the time of publication.<\/p>\n<p>The graphs below show the increase in reports on Downdetector of issues experienced on Google and Gmail services in South Africa on Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Google-and-Gmail-outage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-422582 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Google-and-Gmail-outage.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"682\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Google-and-Gmail-outage.jpg 682w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Google-and-Gmail-outage-512x400.jpg 512w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Google-and-Gmail-outage-550x430.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 682px) 100vw, 682px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Update: <\/strong>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/appsstatus\/dashboard\/#hl=en&amp;v=status\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google Workspace Status Dashboard<\/a><\/strong> has been updated with a notice that the company was investigating reports of issues accessing Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Chat and Google Meet.<\/p>\n<p>However, it did not address the fact that the issue was being experienced outside of Europe.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are investigating an issue which is affecting some users in Europe affecting their ability to access some services,&#8221; it stated. &#8220;We will provide more information shortly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Now read: <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/422252-youtube-hiding-dislikes.html\" rel=\"bookmark\">YouTube hiding dislikes<\/a><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Numerous Gmail users in South Africa, Europe, the UK, and Japan have reported issues with accessing the email service on Friday morning.
