In cloud computing, dynamically-shared computing resources are virtualised and accessed as a service, making it a particularly attractive proposition for small to large-sized companies in Africa. <\/p>\n<p>The new centre, based at the company&#8217;s Sandton offices, will be a showcase for new and open technologies including cloud computing, Web 2.0, service-oriented architecture, and systems management. It will also demonstrate next generation banking systems and environmentally-friendly computing designs. <\/p>\n<p>The intention of the centre is to encourage entrepreneurship and growth in the region by making resources available to business partners, software start-ups, IT professionals and academia.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>The Innovation Centre is one of a number of investments IBM has made into local technology centres, including a R12 million Blue Gene supercomputer to be donated to the Meraka Centre for High Performance Computing.
