{"id":426410,"date":"2021-12-07T12:18:38","date_gmt":"2021-12-07T10:18:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=426410"},"modified":"2021-12-07T12:26:01","modified_gmt":"2021-12-07T10:26:01","slug":"whatsapp-message-privacy-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/426410-whatsapp-message-privacy-update.html","title":{"rendered":"WhatsApp message privacy update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WhatsApp is rolling out a new privacy feature that will allow users to set a global timer to enable disappearing messages by default in new chats.<\/p>\n<p>Messages will then automatically delete after a set interval.<\/p>\n<p>Users can turn on the disappearing messages feature for all new one-on-one chats and new groups they create, the Meta-owned company said in a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.whatsapp.com\/more-control-and-privacy-with-default-disappearing-messages-and-multiple-durations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today we are excited to provide our users with more options to control their messages and how long they stick around, with default disappearing messages and multiple durations,&#8221; the Meta-owned company said.<\/p>\n<p>WhatsApp has improved its <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/375356-whatsapp-rolls-out-disappearing-messages.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">existing disappearing messages feature<\/a><\/strong>, which previously could only delete messages automatically seven days after being sent.<\/p>\n<p>The messaging platform has added 24 hours and 90-day options to the disappearing messages feature.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-426412 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/whatsapp-disappearing-messages-800-x-533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/whatsapp-disappearing-messages-800-x-533.jpg 800w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/whatsapp-disappearing-messages-800-x-533-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/whatsapp-disappearing-messages-800-x-533-640x426.jpg 640w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/whatsapp-disappearing-messages-800-x-533-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The company has noted some exceptions to the feature on its <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/faq.whatsapp.com\/general\/chats\/about-disappearing-messages\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FAQ page<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>If a message isn&#8217;t read during the period set before it is deleted, devices could still display a preview of the message in notifications until WhatsApp is opened.<\/li>\n<li>If you reply to a disappearing message, the quoted text might remain in the chat after the duration you select.<\/li>\n<li>If a disappearing message is forwarded to a chat with disappearing messages off, the message won&#8217;t disappear in the forwarded conversation.<\/li>\n<li>If a backup is created before a message disappears, WhatsApp will include the message in the backup.
