IPTV subscribers grew by 6.06% in the third quarter of 2011 and now total 54.4 million globally. This is according to the latest Point-Topic IPTV report.<\/p>\n

The Point-Topic report highlights that IPTV growth is hampered by the requirement for higher bandwidth and higher cost tariffs than other applications.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith significant competition from many other options for a TV feed there are barriers that prevent IPTV from exploding in subscriber terms. However it is steadily spreading through the consumer universe and generates significant additional ARPU,\u201d says Point-Topic.<\/p>\n

\u201cInternet service providers are working hard to make an IPTV service an automatic part of a product package. They are having some success but they have yet to face significant challenges from over the top suppliers globally.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt remains to be seen what effect a full spectrum of video offerings will have on particular elements of the market but competition is usually good for the consumer and prices will continue to come under pressure in the coming quarters,\u201d the report states.<\/p>\n

Regional growth<\/strong><\/p>\n

Asia is the fastest growing region for IPTV, but European markets continue to strengthen on an individual basis.<\/p>\n

When it comes to the Top 10 IPTV countries France continues to lead, followed by China and the USA.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrowth in France, the current world leader, is still very strong particularly given a high penetration rate, but China by sheer force of market size is an irresistible force and will become number 1 by the end of 2011,\u201d Point-Topic states.<\/p>\n
