{"id":429458,"date":"2022-01-10T08:46:38","date_gmt":"2022-01-10T06:46:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=429458"},"modified":"2022-01-10T08:57:03","modified_gmt":"2022-01-10T06:57:03","slug":"whatsapp-notifications-and-groups-changes-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/429458-whatsapp-notifications-and-groups-changes-coming.html","title":{"rendered":"WhatsApp notifications and groups changes coming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WhatsApp has kicked off the year with a raft of new features and changes rolled out to the beta versions of its Android and iOS apps.<\/p>\n<p>The past week&#8217;s new features have been <a href=\"https:\/\/wabetainfo.com\/whatsapp-news-of-the-week-notifications-and-communities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>summarised by WABetaInfo<\/strong><\/a>, a site well-known for its detailed reports on WhatsApp features that are only in beta or still under development.<\/p>\n<p>The first significant change is the addition of profile pictures for WhatsApp message notifications in iOS 15.<\/p>\n<p>Users of WhatsApp iOS beta version 2.22.1.1 will now see the person&#8217;s profile photo who sent them a message directly within the notification on their home screen.<\/p>\n<p>WhatsApp has enabled the feature, adding support through a new API available on iOS 15.<\/p>\n<p>The image below shows an example of WhatsApp notifications on the latest iOS beta.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/WhatsApp-notification-with-profile-photo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-429464\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/WhatsApp-notification-with-profile-photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"1165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/WhatsApp-notification-with-profile-photo.jpg 946w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/WhatsApp-notification-with-profile-photo-275x400.jpg 275w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/WhatsApp-notification-with-profile-photo-295x430.jpg 295w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/WhatsApp-notification-with-profile-photo-768x1119.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>WhatsApp has also started showing additional information in notifications informing users that someone replied to or mentioned them in a message on a group chat.<\/p>\n<p>On Android, the past week&#8217;s updates were primarily focused on bug fixes and general improvements.<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/wabetainfo.com\/whatsapp-beta-for-android-2-22-2-10-whats-new\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>WABetaInfo also discovered<\/strong><\/a> new references to WhatsApp&#8217;s incoming Communities feature in Android beta version 2.21.25.17.<\/p>\n<p>WhatsApp Communities will allow admins to organise multiple groups under a single, overarching channel, according to WABetaInfo&#8217;s reports.<\/p>\n<p>That would provide similar functionality to what&#8217;s currently available from one of WhatsApp&#8217;s most prominent rivals \u2014 Telegram.<\/p>\n<p>This capability, alongside support for more members per channel, has made Telegram popular for community safety groups.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/WhatsApp-Communities.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-429470\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/WhatsApp-Communities.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"1285\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/WhatsApp-Communities.jpg 956w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/WhatsApp-Communities-249x400.jpg 249w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/WhatsApp-Communities-268x430.jpg 268w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/WhatsApp-Communities-768x1234.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lastly, WhatsApp Business beta users on Android and iOS can search their chats and message using a <a href=\"https:\/\/wabetainfo.com\/whatsapp-is-enabling-advanced-search-filters-for-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>new advanced search filter<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When you use these options, you can quickly view results that meet your condition,&#8221;
