Cybersmart offers ADSL at R125 a month and SAOL at R138 a month.

Nashua Mobile however argued that they were indeed the cheapest as their offering was an all-inclusive ADSL service while Cybersmart’s service excludes monthly ADSL access charges.

Nashua Mobile further highlighted that the SAOL offering was over a 24-month period, with only the first 12 months at R138, and the remaining 12 months at R189. Nashua Mobile’s offering is priced at R139 throughout the 12 month contract which includes a Billion WiFi router and a 4GB email account.

“This [The SAOL offering] totals R3924 over 24 months as opposed to Nashua Mobile’s 12 month total of R1668 and presumably R3336 over 24 months. SAOL also appears to levy a ‘set-up’ fee at R275, which the respondent ex facie does not,” said the ASA.

“In order to have a fair comparison, the packages would have to have the exact same characteristics and each listing would have to be compared on its worth or price,” the ASA said.

The advertising authority said that it appears that the complainants did not compare “apples with apples” and as such, misinterpreted the claims and intention of the advertisement.

The complaints were subsequently dismissed.

ADSL deals discussion

[5

post-4307","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-adsl
