{"id":435388,"date":"2022-02-28T10:11:33","date_gmt":"2022-02-28T08:11:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=435388"},"modified":"2022-02-28T10:11:33","modified_gmt":"2022-02-28T08:11:33","slug":"hacked-nvidia-driver-for-mining-ethereum-riddled-with-viruses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/security\/435388-hacked-nvidia-driver-for-mining-ethereum-riddled-with-viruses.html","title":{"rendered":"Hacked Nvidia driver for mining Ethereum riddled with viruses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A modified driver for Nvidia graphics cards that promised to remove the hash rate limits set by the manufacturer has been discovered to contain malware.<\/p>\n<p>The driver \u2014 named Nvidia RTX LHR v2 Unlocker and free to download from GitHub \u2014 would modify Windows Powershell policies, delete and create files in system directories, and cause irregularly high CPU usage.<\/p>\n<p>According to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tomshardware.com\/news\/nvidia-rtx-lhr-unlocker-malware\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tom&#8217;s Hardware<\/a><\/strong>, the malware was discovered by Hassan Mujtaba, who said that all links to the download page on GitHub had been removed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We ask everyone to avoid downloading or using it in any capacity,&#8221;
