THE SABC is pushing ahead with its international channel \u2014 SABC News International \u2014 with the 24-hours news channel already available in several countries, despite a launch which attracted little fanfare.<\/p>\n
Deals have been signed with US broadcaster MHZ and with Mauritius, where the channel is available 12 hours a day.<\/p>\n
Negotiations are underway with Mozambique \u2014 where a deal is expected soon \u2014 Uganda, and Tanzania, while India and China have also expressed interest, the SABC has confirmed.<\/p>\n
The channel is also targeting Europe.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe whole aim of the channel is to be global,\u201d explained channel ambassador Ravi Goshalia, who is marketing the channel to broadcasters.<\/p>\n
Goshalia said he planned to present the channel to the national broadcaster in every African country.<\/p>\n
At home, the picture is somewhat bleaker. SABC News International is available on the late night slot on SABC2 and on Sentech\u2019s Vivid platform.<\/p>\n
The channel may become available on DStv, depending on negotiations.<\/p>\n
