{"id":440440,"date":"2022-04-09T11:00:58","date_gmt":"2022-04-09T09:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=440440"},"modified":"2022-04-09T11:04:34","modified_gmt":"2022-04-09T09:04:34","slug":"__trashed-2__trashed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/government\/440440-__trashed-2__trashed.html","title":{"rendered":"Facebook issues warning to City of Tshwane over &#8220;grey account&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Facebook will disable the City of Tshwane&#8217;s account from next month.<\/p>\n<p>To avoid losing access to its official Facebook page, Tshwane will have to create a new account and add it as an admin user of the page before 5 May 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The social media giant notified the metropolitan municipality of the issue with an in-app message explaining why it was shutting down the account.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook said that the account Tshwane used was a &#8220;grey account&#8221; \u2014 an older type of account used in the past to manage Facebook Pages and run ads.<\/p>\n<p>These accounts do not have any personal profiles associated with them.<\/p>\n<p>They also do not offer the same security features as standard accounts, so Facebook has deprecated them.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook said Tshwane would have to create a new standard account to continue using the platform.<\/p>\n<p>It also explained that the city could keep control of any pages or groups it manages by moving ownership of these to the new account.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Facebook-warning-to-CoT.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-440608\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Facebook-warning-to-CoT.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"1002\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Facebook-warning-to-CoT.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Facebook-warning-to-CoT-319x400.jpg 319w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Facebook-warning-to-CoT-426x533.jpg 426w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Facebook-warning-to-CoT-768x962.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Facebook-warning-to-CoT-1227x1536.jpg 1227w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Facebook-warning-to-CoT-1636x2048.jpg 1636w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Facebook-warning-to-CoT-1200x1503.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tshwane&#8217;s account runs an official page with more than 286,000 followers.<\/p>\n<p>Like other government organisations, it uses the page to communicate important events that might impact citizens, including power outages, potential water shortages, and service delivery disruptions.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, the municipality <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CityTshwane\/status\/1512003692710576128\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>announced<\/strong><\/a> the account had already been disabled and a new page would be available from Friday, 8 April 2022.
