Samsung Electronics<\/a> South Africa announced today (24 February 2012) that its Samsung Apps store for Android<\/a> devices has officially gone live with a premium SMS<\/a> billing option.<\/p>\n

\u201cUntil now, the only way to purchase from the Samsung App store was via a credit card,\u201d said Deon Liebenberg<\/a>, MD of Samsung South Africa, \u201cHowever, given the diversity of our country, in some instances this has prevented some consumers from purchasing relevant content on the store.”<\/p>\n

“Today this changes, as our premium SMS billing option becomes available \u2013 allowing consumers to purchase content easily and conveniently using a preferred method of payment.\u201d<\/p>\n

With this service, customers can now choose the phone billing option (credit card or SMS) at the time of purchasing paid-for apps.<\/p>\n

Should customers choose the new SMS option, the purchase will be confirmed automatically via SMS and the download costs reflected either on the monthly phone bill – if the consumer has a monthly contract – or via a deduction from their phone credit balance, if on prepaid.<\/p>\n

Samsung said that the premium SMS billing service is available across all its Android devices on the MTN<\/a>, Vodacom<\/a> and Cell C<\/a> networks in South Africa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
