{"id":44681,"date":"2012-03-01T09:11:01","date_gmt":"2012-03-01T07:11:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=44681"},"modified":"2012-03-01T09:11:41","modified_gmt":"2012-03-01T07:11:41","slug":"raspberry-pi-sells-out-in-under-a-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/44681-raspberry-pi-sells-out-in-under-a-day.html","title":{"rendered":"Raspberry Pi sells out in under a day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite being the size of a credit card, the $35 (R261.66) <a title=\"Raspberry Pi\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/395497-Raspberry-Pi-Foundation\">Raspberry Pi<\/a> <a title=\"Linux\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/360310-Linux\" target=\"_blank\">Linux<\/a> computer is already enjoying huge sales success.<\/p>\n<p>The device became available for pre-order on Wednesday (29 February) and was sold out within a few hours.<\/p>\n<p>The single-board device features a 700MHz processor, 256MB of RAM, an SD card slot, two USB ports, an Ethernet port, and HDMI\/RCA outputs.<\/p>\n<p>The Pi is capable of running games such as Quake III and can stream 1080p HD video; however the main focus of the device is expected to be implementation in educational institutions where cost has previously been too great a hurdle to overcome.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the cheaper Raspberry model scheduled for release later this year has received an unexpected specification bump.
