{"id":4475,"date":"2008-07-14T13:22:00","date_gmt":"2008-07-14T11:22:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2008-07-14T13:22:00","modified_gmt":"2008-07-14T11:22:00","slug":"firefox-gaining-ground","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/4475-firefox-gaining-ground.html","title":{"rendered":"Firefox gaining ground"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Only a few years ago Microsoft had a virtual monopoly on the Internet browser market with Internet Explorer, but since Mozilla&rsquo;s Firefox entered the market things have started to change.<\/p>\n<p>Firefox 1.0 was officially launched in November 2004 after a few beta versions, gaining quick adoption from tech-savvy Internet users.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Since its launch in 2004 the browser has steadily gained market share, and after the much-hyped Firefox 3 launch the Mozilla browser looks set to continue this trend.<\/p>\n<p>According to W3Schools, Firefox holds a 41% market share, followed by Internet Explorer 7 with 27%, Internet Explorer 6 with 26.5 % and Safari with 2.6%.<\/p>\n<p>Net Applications gives Internet Explorer a big lead over Firefox. According to the company&rsquo;s browser market share information, IE is used by 76% of Internet users, followed by Firefox with 16.8% and Safari with 5.6%.<\/p>\n<p>MyBroadband&rsquo;s statistics are far closer to W3Schools.
