{"id":45081,"date":"2012-03-07T07:13:20","date_gmt":"2012-03-07T05:13:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=45081"},"modified":"2012-03-07T07:14:15","modified_gmt":"2012-03-07T05:14:15","slug":"nasa-probes-map-moon-gravity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/45081-nasa-probes-map-moon-gravity.html","title":{"rendered":"NASA probes map moon gravity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Twin <a title=\"NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/387397-NASA-National-Aeronautics-and-Space-Administration\">NASA<\/a> probes in orbit around the moon have begun mapping the lunar gravity field in hopes of figuring out why Earth&#8217;s only natural satellite is shaped the way it is.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign kicked off late Tuesday, two months after the spacecraft arrived back-to-back at the moon over the New Year&#8217;s weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Despite numerous missions to the moon, scientists still don&#8217;t know why the far side of the moon is more mountainous than the side that always faces Earth.<\/p>\n<p>The $496 million mission is officially called the Gravity Recovery And Interior Laboratory.
