premium subscription service arrives this week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Snapchat users will get access to the social platform\u2019s subscription service starting this week, The Verge <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/6\/29\/23187132\/snapchat-plus-subscription-announced\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Snapchat Plus will cost $3.99 (R64.66 a month) and give exclusive access to mostly cosmetic features for now.<\/p>\n<p>Premium users can change the app icon\u2019s style, see which contacts rewatched their story, and pin a friend to the top of their chat history.<\/p>\n<p>Snapchat calls the pinned contact your \u201c#1 BFF\u201d, and includes several features built around it.<\/p>\n<p>For example, Snapchat Plus subscribers will be able to see their orbit with their BFF and view the friend\u2019s whereabouts in the last 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>However, app researcher and developer Alessandro Paluzzi <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alex193a\/status\/1537441543925116937\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revealed<\/a><\/strong> that location tracking only works if the pinned contacts consent to share their location data.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-450852 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Snapchat_Plus_screenshots-492x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"492\" height=\"533\" https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Snapchat_Plus_screenshots.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 492px) 100vw, 492px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Snapchat senior vice president of product Jacob Andreou told The Verge that premium subscribers will still see advertisements.<\/p>\n<p>On 16 June, Snapchat <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/449178-snapchat-testing-subscription-service-with-friend-location-tracking.html\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed<\/a><\/strong> it was internally testing the Snapchat Plus service after Paluzzi discovered the code.<\/p>\n<p>Snapchat is the latest social messaging service to join the trend of adding premium services to paying customers.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/smartphones\/449530-telegram-premium-launched-what-you-get-for-r89-99-per-month.html\">Telegram launched its subscription service<\/a><\/strong> on 20 June.<\/p>\n<p>Telegram Premium\u2019s features include removing ads from public channels, increased upload file sizes and download speeds, and unique animated reactions.<\/p>\n<p>It also offers cosmetic features such as changing how the app\u2019s icon looks on smartphones and tablets.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Now read: <a
