{"id":45099,"date":"2012-03-07T09:57:40","date_gmt":"2012-03-07T07:57:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=45099"},"modified":"2012-03-07T09:59:11","modified_gmt":"2012-03-07T07:59:11","slug":"gmail-sending-spam-emails-using-your-account","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/45099-gmail-sending-spam-emails-using-your-account.html","title":{"rendered":"Gmail sending spam emails using your account?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Users of <a title=\"Google\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/314567-Google\">Google\u2019s<\/a> Gmail service have become irate, after it appears that spam messages sent in their name go out.<\/p>\n<p>The spam messages are sent to non-Gmail users without the Gmail account holder\u2019s knowledge or consent.<\/p>\n<p>One complaint on the Google forum reads, \u201cAt no point did I say it was ok for google to send email messages to my non-gmail contacts recommending they sign up for gmail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The subject line of these spam emails is, \u201c[User name] wants to chat\u201d, and proceeds to extol the virtues of Gmail and Google Talk.<\/p>\n<p>After Chris Matyszczyk of <em>Cnet<\/em> contacted Google for information regarding the issue, a Google community manager replied to the complaints on the Google forums which had previously gone unanswered.<\/p>\n<p>The message was, \u201cIt sounds like you are seeing chat invite emails. These emails are generally sent when you invite a non-Gmail user to chat with you &#8212; I&#8217;ve attached a help article below. Did you invite these recipients to chat with you by clicking &#8216;Invite to chat&#8217; on their name card or after typing their name into the Chat box?
