Ookla’s<\/a> Net Index shows that South Africa’s average download speed is 3.03Mbps, up from 1.89Mbps a month ago (based on information on 7 March 2012). This result means that South Africa ranks in 103rd place globally.<\/p>\n

According to the Net Index website, which uses data from millions of recent Speedtest.net test results, the average global download speed is 9.94Mbps.<\/p>\n

The highest average download speeds by country were recorded in Lithuania (31,71Mbps), followed by South Korea (30.19Mbps) and Latvia (27.66Mbps).<\/p>\n

The average global upload speed is 3.78Mbps. South Korea leads the pack with an average uplink speed of 27.89Mbps.<\/p>\n

South Africa in comparison had an average upload speed of 1.27Mbps. South Africa ranks in 93rd place when compared to the upload speeds of countries globally.<\/p>\n

According to Ookla’s Net Index, the Cape Technikon (39.84Mbps) had the highest average download speed over the last 30 days, followed by MWEB<\/a> Connect (24.98Mbps) and the UNINET Project<\/a> (15.51Mbps).<\/p>\n
