{"id":45467,"date":"2012-03-14T22:52:17","date_gmt":"2012-03-14T20:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=45467"},"modified":"2012-03-15T08:57:52","modified_gmt":"2012-03-15T06:57:52","slug":"xtreme-data-versus-blackberry-internet-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/45467-xtreme-data-versus-blackberry-internet-service.html","title":{"rendered":"Xtreme Data versus BlackBerry Internet Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At a flat monthly fee of R59, <a title=\"Nashua Mobile\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/313921-Nashua-Mobile\">Nashua Mobile\u2019s<\/a> recently launched Xtreme Data Service (XDS) has priced itself to compete head-on with <a title=\"BlackBerry\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/342709-BlackBerry\">BlackBerry<\/a> Internet Service (BIS) in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Both services offer uncapped on-device data usage and target a single handset brand, but are also dissimilar in many respects.<\/p>\n<p>BIS is available to all BlackBerry handsets, while XDS is limited to certain <a title=\"Symbian\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/360524-Symbian\">Symbian<\/a>-based <a title=\"Nokia\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/314603-Nokia-Corporation\">Nokia<\/a> handsets (Nokia C3, X2-01, N8, E5 or E7).<\/p>\n<p>XDS has a clearly defined fair usage policy (FUP), limiting users to speeds of 512kbps from the get-go and throttling them to 256kbps after using 100MB and to 56kbps after hitting the threshold of 160MB.<\/p>\n<p>Usage counters are reset at the start of every new month.<\/p>\n<p>Operators also typically have a fair usage policy for BIS that they can invoke when the service is strained under load, but it isn\u2019t as rigidly defined in terms and conditions as the XDS FUP, however.<\/p>\n<div class=\"table-responsive\"><table class=\"table\" style=\"background-color: #f0f0f0;
