{"id":455401,"date":"2022-08-04T10:03:31","date_gmt":"2022-08-04T08:03:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=455401"},"modified":"2022-08-04T10:14:14","modified_gmt":"2022-08-04T08:14:14","slug":"mtn-data-network-down-in-two-provinces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/455401-mtn-data-network-down-in-two-provinces.html","title":{"rendered":"MTN data network down in two provinces"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MTN customers in the Free State and Western Cape have complained that they cannot use mobile data services on the operator&#8217;s network.<\/p>\n<p>A surge in reports on Thursday morning was recorded on <a href=\"https:\/\/downdetector.co.za\/status\/mtn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>MTN&#8217;s Downdetector page<\/strong><\/a> from around 06:00 AM, with the main issue being flagged as &#8220;Mobile Internet&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Several customers from Cape Town and Bloemfontein reported they could not use mobile data.<\/p>\n<p>One subscriber in Kenwyn in Cape Town said the issue started around midnight.<\/p>\n<p>Several customers were complaining about the same problems on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Your Internet is not working in Stellenbosch, cannot connect to WhatsApp to log a fault. Cannot buy mobile data using the banking app, no Internet,&#8221; one user posted.<\/p>\n<p>The graph below shows the increase in reports about issues on MTN&#8217;s network in South Africa on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/MTN-outages_Downdetector_4-August-2022.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-455403\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/MTN-outages_Downdetector_4-August-2022.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/MTN-outages_Downdetector_4-August-2022.jpg 800w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/MTN-outages_Downdetector_4-August-2022-600x254.jpg 600w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/MTN-outages_Downdetector_4-August-2022-768x324.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, Downdetector also showed Capitec bank experiencing issues around the same time.<\/p>\n<p>MyBroadband tested logging into Capitec&#8217;s app from Gauteng.
