The manufacturing delay was caused by an Ethernet port mixup where Raspberry Pi had specified magnetic jacks but received non-magnetic ones.

“No magnetics means no network connection,” wrote the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s PR volunteer, Liz Upton.

The initial batch will probably not be affected, but Raspberry Pi warned that later batches might be delayed if there’s a problem sourcing enough magnetic jacks.

“All the stock of jacks we believed we had in place and ready to turn into the Ethernet ports on your Raspberry Pis turn out not to be the correct part, so we’re having to start again and move through the negotiating/ordering/delivery cycle as fast as we can.”

Magnetic and non-magnetic Ethernet port: which is which, do you think?

RS Electronics has also informed Raspberry Pi that it has changed its pricing structure to be more uniform across the world.

“With demand running at such a high level, and in an effort to keep things as simple as possible, RS have decided to set a single global price and a single global delivery charge,” RS told Raspberry Pi. “This should help you communicate to the Raspberry Pi community very clearly.”

The new price for the Raspberry Pi Model B will be £21.60 and will have a shipping charge of £4.95 (all excluding VAT and import duties).

RS Electronics also explained that the only country where they don’t sell to individuals is Austria, and that they will accept payments via PayPal or credit card.

“The single Shipping Charge of £4.95 will apply to all orders and will also include any Raspberry Pi accessories ordered from RS at the same time as the Raspberry Pi Model B board (eg.
