{"id":460189,"date":"2022-09-13T00:09:48","date_gmt":"2022-09-12T22:09:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=460189"},"modified":"2022-09-13T00:20:24","modified_gmt":"2022-09-12T22:20:24","slug":"new-ios-features-that-android-has-offered-for-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/460189-new-ios-features-that-android-has-offered-for-years.html","title":{"rendered":"New iOS features that Android has offered for years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are numerous features in Apple&#8217;s latest operating system update for iPhones \u2014 iOS 16 \u2014 which have been available on Android for several years.<\/p>\n<p>iOS officially launched on Monday, 12 September 2022, after being available in public beta from 11 July 2022.<\/p>\n<p>As with many previous releases, several commentators have called out Apple for promoting certain features as innovative milestones when they have been available on Android or from some Android-specific manufacturers for a while.<\/p>\n<p>Apple often uses the launches of its new iPhones \u2014 like the recently-announced iPhone 14 \u2014 to punt some of the latest software upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>This year, Apple emphasised safety features such as Car Crash Detection, which can automatically detect when users have been in an accident and send alerts to emergency contacts.<\/p>\n<p>However, this feature\u00a0has been available in Google Pixel smartphones for three years.<\/p>\n<p>The iPhone 14 Pro will also be the first of Apple&#8217;s smartphones to feature an Always-On display, launched on certain Android-based smartphones in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Below is a list of some of the new features iOS is receiving that have been available on Android for three years or longer.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Always-On Display \u2014 Debuted on the Samsung Galaxy J7 in 2016.
