{"id":4617,"date":"2008-07-25T15:03:00","date_gmt":"2008-07-25T13:03:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2008-07-25T15:03:00","modified_gmt":"2008-07-25T13:03:00","slug":"mtn-s-big-network-investment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/4617-mtn-s-big-network-investment.html","title":{"rendered":"MTN\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s big network investment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MTN South Africa is planning to invest R 7.1 billion in 2008 to improve and expand its current network.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a media function on Friday, MTN MD Tim Lowry said that the company has a strong focus on network expansion and capacity and will increasingly invest in serving its own transmission needs.<\/p>\n<p>MTN SA&rsquo;s Chief Technology Officer Sameer Dave said that MTN is planning to increase their number of 2007 3G\/HSDPA sites by 50% in 2008.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>The increase in 3G\/HSDPA sites and customers mean much higher backhaul network demands, and here MTN is deploying its own metropolitan fibre network in Gauteng as well as a 5000 km national fibre network.<\/p>\n<p>Construction will start in August with an investment of between R 120 million and R 150 million for its metropolitan fibre network and R 1.2 to 1.5 billion for its national fibre network.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure adequate international capacity MTN is the largest investor in the EASSy submarine cable project while it is also in talks with partners to build a submarine cable system on the west coast of Africa.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php?t=128593\"><strong>MTN network discussion<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MTN SA invests R 7.1 billion in local network improvements<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[14],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-4617","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-cellular"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4617"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=4617"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4617\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4617"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=4617"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=4617"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
