robot prototype with opposable thumbs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Elon Musk showed off a prototype humanoid robot walking and waving its hand, seeking to demonstrate Tesla Inc.&#8217;s advances in artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>At the electric automaker&#8217;s AI Day late Friday, Musk also showed a video of the robot picking up boxes and moving through a rendered office building to water plants.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The robot can actually do a lot more than we just showed you,&#8221; said Musk.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Optimus is designed to be an extremely capable robot made in very high volume, probably ultimately millions of units, and is expected to cost much less than a car.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The event, held at a Tesla facility in Palo Alto, California, featured several engineers giving highly technical presentations about how the robot perceives its environment.<\/p>\n<p>The technology that Tesla has developed for its vehicles, including cameras, is now being used for the robot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/New-tesla-robot.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-462825\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/New-tesla-robot.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/New-tesla-robot.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/New-tesla-robot-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/New-tesla-robot-800x533.jpg 800w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/New-tesla-robot-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Musk, who was tweeting during his employees&#8217; presentations, said near the end of the three-hour event that he was &#8220;excited to see what Optimus will become.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Musk added Tesla plans to test the robot at its factory in Fremont, California, where the videos of it operating were filmed.<\/p>\n<p>But he admitted the robot is &#8220;not strictly speaking in line with&#8221; Tesla&#8217;s goal of accelerating the adoption of sustainable energy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m not sure where it ends up,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Musk also said Tesla is &#8220;probably not barking up the right tree on all the technical solutions,&#8221; and reminded the audience the company is &#8220;open to evolving&#8221; those solutions it has already arrived at.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the robot, Tesla used the event to expand on the progress it has made developing its automated driving software, and the &#8220;Dojo&#8221;
