{"id":46714,"date":"2012-03-29T10:02:59","date_gmt":"2012-03-29T08:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=46714"},"modified":"2012-03-29T10:04:33","modified_gmt":"2012-03-29T08:04:33","slug":"android-apple-to-dominate-pcs-by-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/46714-android-apple-to-dominate-pcs-by-2016.html","title":{"rendered":"Android, Apple to dominate PCs by 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Traditional desktop PCs will see a sharp decline by 2016, while devices based on the <a title=\"Android Mobile Oerating System\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/221979-Google-Android\">Android<\/a> and <a title=\"Apple Inc\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/342717-Apple-inc\">Apple<\/a> iOS systems will continue to gain market share.<\/p>\n<p>This is according the research firm IDC, who note there will be a \u201cdramatic shift\u201d in the computing market between 2011 and 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201conce-dominant\u201d x86 <a title=\"Windows\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/360852-Windows\">Windows<\/a>-based PC will drop from 35.9 percent market share in 2011, to 25.1 percent market share in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Android devices will grow from 29.4 percent share in 2011 to 31.1 percent in 2016, while iOS devices will go from 14.6 percent to 17.3 percent over the same period.<\/p>\n<p>Unit shipments for \u201csmart, connected\u201d devices such as smartphones and tablets are expected to top 1.1 billion this year.
