{"id":4674,"date":"2008-07-30T23:15:00","date_gmt":"2008-07-30T21:15:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2008-07-30T23:15:00","modified_gmt":"2008-07-30T21:15:00","slug":"getting-around-beijing-firewalls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/4674-getting-around-beijing-firewalls.html","title":{"rendered":"Getting around Beijing firewalls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reporters Without Borders is encouraging journalists covering the Beijing Olympics to skirt censorship with tips on how to get around firewalls, lock computer files and find safe translators. <\/p>\n<p>In a guide published on the internet on Wednesday, the Paris-based organisation advised reporters to conduct phone calls and write e-mails with the knowledge that they may be monitored. <\/p>\n<p>China has backed away from a promise to lift all internet blocks on foreign media. <\/p>\n<p>The new guide will likely help only journalists who have not yet left for Beijing: The press freedom group says its web site, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rsf.org\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.rsf.org<\/a>, remains blocked in China. <\/p>\n<p>Chinese officials assured news organisations &quot;complete freedom to report&quot; when bidding for the games seven years ago.
