SouthTel<\/a>, a satellite pay-TV hopeful that promised to launch a push-based video-on-demand (VOD)<\/a> service in South Africa by \u201cearly 2012\u201d, has not launched and is not commenting on why.<\/p>\n

Toward the end of June 2011, SouthTel told MyBroadband that they were trialling the service and planned to launch a commercial service in a month or two from then.<\/p>\n

In September 2011, SouthTel CEO Oscar Dube<\/a> said that it was delaying its commercial launch to Q4 2011 to \u201cmake sure [their] product is functioning 100%\u201d.<\/p>\n

The last time anything was forthcoming from SouthTel was in a media report<\/a> that quoted \u201cinsiders\u201d as saying that the launch date was pushed back again due to, among other things, the problems experienced by MultiChoice<\/a> when it launched its DStv<\/a> BoxOffice VOD service.<\/p>\n

SouthTel reportedly had the content agreements in place to roll out with more than 150 hours of HD content per month, and planned to launch in \u201cearly 2012\u201d.<\/p>\n

The first quarter of 2012 has come and gone, SouthTel has not launched, and neither CEO Oscar Dube, nor project manager Pieter Ferreira<\/a> are responding to requests for comment.<\/p>\n
