{"id":473005,"date":"2022-12-07T15:01:34","date_gmt":"2022-12-07T13:01:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=473005"},"modified":"2022-12-07T15:09:07","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T13:09:07","slug":"huge-google-search-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/473005-huge-google-search-change.html","title":{"rendered":"Huge Google Search change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google has <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Google\/status\/1599889522380120078\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>started rolling ou<\/strong><\/a>t continuous scrolling for search results on desktop browsers.<\/p>\n<p>From Tuesday, 6 December 2022, English users of Google Search in the US will see the content from up to six results pages when scrolling down.<\/p>\n<p>Once they reach the last set of initial results, they will see a new &#8220;More&#8221; button at the bottom to load additional content.<\/p>\n<p>The change makes the Google Search experience similar to feeds on social media apps like Twitter and Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>The GIF in the tweet below shows how continuous scrolling on Google Search on desktop works.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Starting today, we\u2019re bringing continuous scrolling to desktop in English in the U.S. so you can continue to see more search results easily. When you reach the bottom of a search results page, you&#8217;ll now be able to see up to six pages of results. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xIuVP24FFm\">pic.twitter.com\/xIuVP24FFm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Google (@Google) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Google\/status\/1599889522380120078?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 5, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Continuous scrolling has also been available for Google Search on mobile devices <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.google\/products\/search\/continuous-scrolling-mobile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>since October 2021<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, in this case, the next set of content loads automatically when the user reaches the bottom of the page.<\/p>\n<p>In other countries, Google Search on desktop currently breaks search results into multiple pages, typically in batches of 10.<\/p>\n<p>When the user reaches the end of the results,\u00a0 they can navigate to 9 other pages before or after the current page or choose to jump between pages with &#8220;previous&#8221; or &#8220;next&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Google said the change would allow users to continue to see more search results easily, but several users on Twitter disagreed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Please don&#8217;t do this. Continuous scrolling kills the web. [It] prevents you [from going] back to the location where you clicked a link, [is] unpredictable, kills the scroll bar,&#8221; one user said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At least make it optional. Paginated, I can remember something like &#8216;page 3 somewhere in the lower third&#8217;. With this infinite thing, you&#8217;re lost,&#8221; another stated.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will probably lose the ability to send a search link of a specific page?
