{"id":47384,"date":"2012-04-10T13:03:00","date_gmt":"2012-04-10T11:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=47384"},"modified":"2012-04-10T13:28:32","modified_gmt":"2012-04-10T11:28:32","slug":"browser-wars-usage-stats-for-march-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/47384-browser-wars-usage-stats-for-march-2012.html","title":{"rendered":"Browser Wars: Usage stats for March 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The rise of <a title=\"Google\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/314567-Google\">Google<\/a> <a title=\"Chrome\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/368084-Chrome\">Chrome<\/a> appeared to continue unabated last month, with StatCounter reporting that the web browser generated more page views than <a title=\"Internet Explorer\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/387173-Internet-Explorer\">Internet Explorer<\/a> on Sunday, 18 March 2012.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"StatCounter\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/387185-StatCounter\">StatCounter<\/a> boss <a title=\"Aodhan Cullen\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/387181-Aodhan-Cullen\">Aodhan Cullen<\/a> said that people are choosing Chrome over\u00a0<a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/211580-Microsoft\">Microsoft\u2019s<\/a> Internet Explorer on weekends, when they are free to choose which browser to use.<\/p>\n<p>For the whole month of March, <a title=\"StatCounter\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/387185-StatCounter\">StatCounter<\/a> reported that Internet Explorer still generated the most page views globally (34.81%), with Chrome not far behind (30.87%).<\/p>\n<p>Firefox\u2019s decline seems to have stabilised for the moment, while Safari continues to grow steadily.<\/p>\n<p>Statistics from NetApplications paints a different picture, however.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_47390\" style=\"width: 588px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47390\" class=\"size-full wp-image-47390\" title=\"NetApplications desktop browser stats - March 2012\" src=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/NetApplications-desktop-browser-stats-March-2012.jpg\" alt=\"NetApplications desktop browser stats - March 2012\" width=\"578\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/NetApplications-desktop-browser-stats-March-2012.jpg 578w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/NetApplications-desktop-browser-stats-March-2012-90x75.jpg 90w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/NetApplications-desktop-browser-stats-March-2012-168x140.jpg 168w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/NetApplications-desktop-browser-stats-March-2012-250x207.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 578px) 100vw, 578px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-47390\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NetApplications desktop browser stats - March 2012<\/p><\/div>\n<p>NetApplications measures browser usage share based on unique visitors weighted by the number of Internet users in a country, whereas StatCounter reports raw pageviews.<\/p>\n<p>We use StatCounter\u2019s data in the tables and graphs below because they allow us to pull country-specific reports.<\/p>\n<div class=\"table-responsive\"><table class=\"table\" style=\"background-color: #f0f0f0;
