{"id":47426,"date":"2012-04-10T09:10:20","date_gmt":"2012-04-10T07:10:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=47426"},"modified":"2012-04-10T10:30:33","modified_gmt":"2012-04-10T08:30:33","slug":"iran-to-cut-off-internet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/47426-iran-to-cut-off-internet.html","title":{"rendered":"Iran to cut off Internet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Iran wants to cut countrywide access to the internet and set up its own \u201cclean\u201d local-only intranet.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to the Iranian minister for Information and Communications Technology <a title=\"Reza Taghipour\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/420220-Reza-Taghipour\">Reza Taghipour<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All Internet Service Providers (ISP) should only present national internet by August,&#8221; Taghipour said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>Web giants <a title=\"Google\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/314567-Google\">Google<\/a>, <a title=\"Hotmail\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/211580-Microsoft\">Hotmail<\/a> and <a title=\"Yahoo\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/363118-Yahoo\">Yahoo<\/a> will be blocked, and replaced with government-controlled services including Iran Mail and Iran Search Engine.<\/p>\n<p>The government has reportedly begun a registration process for those interested in using the Iran Mail service, which will verify and record a user\u2019s full name and physical address.<\/p>\n<p>Iran has previously blocked country access to the internet.
