Digital and lifestyle distributor, Esquire Technologies has announced it will launch its own range of tablet PCs in South Africa under the brand name Geeko.<\/p>\n

The tablets are aimed at the business, home and educational markets, and follow a recent acquisition of the domain name, Geeko.com.<\/p>\n

The Geeko range is currently in production, and will launch in June 2012. It will include a unit aimed at the professional user and one targeted and the home and educational markets.<\/p>\n

The entry-level unit will retail for under R2000, while the business-focused unit will come in at under R3000.<\/p>\n

Asgar Mahomed, MD of Esquire, said the company has invested \u201csubstantially\u201d in research and development, to ensure that the Esquire-owned Geeko range comes with features and specifications required by the local market.<\/p>\n

The seven-inch unit will come with the Android 2.3 operating system, while the 10-inch unit will boast the Android 4.0 Ice-cream sandwich operating system. \u201cWe have also ensured that the units come with the capacitive touch feature, which is what the market is demanding,\u201d said Mahomed.<\/p>\n

The business unit would also come standard with Wi-Fi and 3G, and include high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) and USB ports.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe tablet market is growing exponentially and will continue to do so for some time. More and more business users are moving away from laptops to tablet PCs, and the home entertainment market is on the increase.”<\/p>\n

“We will continue to distribute our other brand name tablet offerings to our reseller base, but we believe that our Geeko range will make quite an impact because they are priced right and come with the required features,\u201d Mahomed concluded.<\/p>\n

The Geeko tablet range will be sold via Esquire\u2019s network of 12,500 resellers.<\/p>\n
