wreck DFA cable, create network problems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dark Fibre Africa (DFA) has informed customers that a section of its network in Western Gauteng has been vandalised, disrupting parts of its network.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDevastating cable vandalism incidents continue to plague the country, in this case, causing significant damage to the company\u2019s network operations,\u201d DFA stated.<\/p>\n<p>It explained that this incident damaged 6\u00d7144 fibre count cables (864 fibres), with over 50 core circuits negatively affected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has resulted in a major increase of network congestion on layer 2 backhaul services, which could result in multiple clients being negatively affected,\u201d DFA said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an organisation, we do not underestimate the severity of the impact that this incident has on our customers and their organisations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many fibre network operators and Internet service providers rely on DFA as a backhaul provider.<\/p>\n<p>It will be up to these companies to inform subscribers whether the outage impacts them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/DFA-fibre-cable-vandalism-trench-26-Jan-2023.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe assure all users that our teams have been working around the clock to repair the damage,\u201d DFA said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are currently doing everything we can to resolve service disruptions as quickly as possible and aim to be completed [Friday] morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The vandalism of its fibre infrastructure comes as DFA is <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/fibre\/476197-dfa-explains-service-disruptions.html\"><strong>executing a significant upgrade<\/strong><\/a> in its Johannesburg network.<\/p>\n<p>DFA chief operations officer Wesley Nash told MyBroadband they had put immense effort and resources into their network improvement plan, which includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The floating and installation of new cables<\/li>\n<li>The addition and expansion of handholes where needed<\/li>\n<li>The replacement of ageing handholes and fibre joints<\/li>\n<li>Rerouting of services ensuring network stability<\/li>\n<li>Investment in bolstering resources, increasing and improving service capacity and quicker turnaround times<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/DFA-fibre-cable-vandalism-bush-26-Jan-2023.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full
