{"id":4799,"date":"2008-08-11T15:39:00","date_gmt":"2008-08-11T13:39:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2008-08-11T15:39:00","modified_gmt":"2008-08-11T13:39:00","slug":"strict-security-for-set-top-boxes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/4799-strict-security-for-set-top-boxes.html","title":{"rendered":"Strict security for set-top boxes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Strict security features will be installed in set-top boxes that will enable South Africans to switch from analogue to digital broadcasting, Communications Minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri said in Johannesburg on Monday. <\/p>\n<p>She said the features would ensure that the boxes would not work outside South African borders and could also be disabled when stolen. <\/p>\n<p>A tough means test would be put in place to determine which households could receive the government&#8217;s 70% subsidy for the boxes.
