Twitter users trying to access the service from its website received an error message on Monday evening.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour current API plan does not include access to this endpoint,\u201d it stated.<\/p>\n

Twitter\u2019s smartphone applications were still working, with the exception of images and links using the built-in URL shortener.<\/p>\n

Twitter CEO Elon Musk responded to a report about the downtime, saying a small change caused the issue.<\/p>\n

“A small API change had massive ramifications. The code stack is extremely brittle for no good reason,” Musk said<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“Will ultimately need a complete rewrite.”<\/p>\n

The outage came amid a crackdown on its application programming interface (API), cutting off third-party Twitter clients.<\/p>\n

Various Twitter \u201cbot\u201d and plugin developers were also to be affected by the change, although they are still working for now.<\/p>\n

These include services that automatically post articles from news websites, blogs, and other social media platforms to Twitter.<\/p>\n

According to Downdetector, the problem began around 19:00.<\/p>\n

By around 19:50, Twitter’s website appeared to be back online.<\/p>\n

Twitter has been experiencing more frequent outages following mass lay-offs after Musk\u2019s takeover of the platform.<\/p>\n

Most recently, people\u2019s feeds were left blank, and users were presented with either an error message or a message that said, \u201cWelcome to Twitter!\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2022, Musk eliminated over 3,700 jobs at Twitter. At the end of February, at least 50 more people were reportedly let go.<\/p>\n

Among those in the latest wave of retrenchments<\/strong><\/a> were Leah Culver, who worked on Twitter\u2019s iOS app, and Twitter Payments chief executive Esther Crawford.<\/p>\n
