{"id":487343,"date":"2023-04-11T16:17:42","date_gmt":"2023-04-11T14:17:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=487343"},"modified":"2023-04-12T08:19:28","modified_gmt":"2023-04-12T06:19:28","slug":"twitter-no-longer-exists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/487343-twitter-no-longer-exists.html","title":{"rendered":"Twitter no longer exists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Twitter Inc. has ceased to be an independent company after merging with a newly formed shell firm called X Corp., driving speculation about what Elon Musk intends for the social media platform.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter \u201cno longer exists\u201d after being merged with X Corp., according to an\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.cand.395023\/gov.uscourts.cand.395023.123.0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">April 4<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0document submitted in a California court for a lawsuit filed against the company and its former chief executive officer, Jack Dorsey, last year by conservative activist Laura Loomer.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear what the change means for Twitter, which has seen a sweeping overhaul since Musk bought the company for $44 billion last year.<\/p>\n<p>The billionaire owner has in the past suggested that buying Twitter would be an \u201caccelerant\u201d for creating X \u2014 which he dubbed an \u201ceverything app.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Musk <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1645684041264529408\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a><\/strong> about the move Tuesday with the single character \u201cX\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The world\u2019s second-richest man has professed his desire to make X similar to China\u2019s WeChat, a super-app owned by Tencent Holdings Ltd. used for everything from payments and booking event tickets to messaging.<\/p>\n<p>But he\u2019s been vague about how it will fit in with his sprawling business empire, ranging from the electric car giant Tesla Inc. to Space Exploration Technologies Corp.<\/p>\n<p>Musk also owns the domain \u201cX.com\u201d \u2014 the name of the online payments company he started and eventually merged with PayPal.<\/p>\n<p>Musk first set up a trio of\u00a0holding companies in Delaware with a variation of the name \u201cX Holdings\u201d in April last year as part of his takeover bid for Twitter. But X Corp. was established on March 9 in Nevada, according to records filed in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Its merger with Twitter was submitted on March 15.
