{"id":488821,"date":"2023-04-24T13:24:04","date_gmt":"2023-04-24T11:24:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=488821"},"modified":"2023-04-24T13:32:00","modified_gmt":"2023-04-24T11:32:00","slug":"googles-ai-tool-can-now-code-in-more-than-20-languages","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/488821-googles-ai-tool-can-now-code-in-more-than-20-languages.html","title":{"rendered":"Google&#8217;s AI tool can now code in more than 20 languages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google\u2019s AI-powered generative text rival for ChatGPT, Bard, is now capable of code generation, debugging, and code explanation in more than 20 programming languages, says Google.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith new coding capabilities, we\u2019re excited to apply generative AI to accelerate software development, inspire innovation, and help people solve complex engineering challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bard is currently available to a limited test group and has <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/484775-google-begins-rolling-out-bard-ai-but-its-no-chatgpt.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opened a waiting list<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for users who want access to the product.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>ChatGPT already has coding capabilities \u2014 in December last year, the Centre for Finance, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CFTE) showed that ChatGPT <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/courses.cfte.education\/chatgpt-outperforms-4m-programmers\/#:~:text=Findings,programmers%20who%20took%20the%20assessment.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">outperformed 85% of<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the 4 million programmers assessed on a LinkedIn Python competency test.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Google is playing catch-up to OpenAI by releasing a programming feature of its own.<\/p>\n<p>Bard will have functionality for more than 20 programming languages, including C++, Go, Java, Javascript, Python and Typescript.<\/p>\n<p>Google cautioned that Bard is still an early experiment and \u201cmay sometimes provide inaccurate, misleading or false information while presenting it confidently\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Google said Bard would be able to debug code even if it was written by Bard itself if users report that error messages appeared or the code didn\u2019t work as intended.<\/p>\n<p>There have been early concerns over Bard, with insiders saying that Google is rushing to launch the service without proper consideration of ethical concerns, according to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/488579-google-employees-call-companys-chatgpt-rival-a-pathological-liar-and-worse-than-useless.html\" rel=\"noopener\">information sourced from Google insiders by Bloomberg<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bard was tested internally by Google staff.
