{"id":489,"date":"2007-07-03T11:37:00","date_gmt":"2007-07-03T09:37:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2007-07-03T11:37:00","modified_gmt":"2007-07-03T09:37:00","slug":"teens-who-play-video-games-do-less-homework","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/gaming\/489-teens-who-play-video-games-do-less-homework.html","title":{"rendered":"Teens who play video games do less homework"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font size=\"2\">Youths who play video games spent 30% less time reading and 34% less time doing homework, said the study by researchers at the University of Michigan and University of Texas published in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">The study was based on a sample of 1,491 young people aged 10 to 19. Among them, 36% regularly played video games. The data was collected from time logs the youths kept of how they spent their time.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">About 80% of those who played video games were males, and they spent more time playing the games than their female counterparts.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">Boys spent an average of 58 minutes per day during the week and one hour 37 minutes on weekends playing video games, compared with girls who played for 44 minutes per day during the week and one hour and one minute on the weekends.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">The boys tended to spend less time reading and girls tended to spend less time doing homework, the study said.
