{"id":490105,"date":"2023-05-04T12:03:19","date_gmt":"2023-05-04T10:03:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=490105"},"modified":"2023-05-04T12:06:31","modified_gmt":"2023-05-04T10:06:31","slug":"vumatel-increasing-prices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/fibre\/490105-vumatel-increasing-prices.html","title":{"rendered":"Vumatel increasing prices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vumatel will increase pricing across its fibre packages by between 1.1% and 2.1% from 1 June 2023.<\/p>\n<p>However, the fibre network operator (FNO) has announced that it will waive installation and activation fees from that date to offset the increase.<\/p>\n<p>MyBroadband asked the FNO for clarification on the increases after a reader received a notification of the Vumatel price changes from their Internet service provider (ISP).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can confirm that we have announced a modest increase in our wholesale rate for our Core products, effective from 1 June 2023,&#8221; Vumatel said.<\/p>\n<p>Vumatel is not the only FNO to announce price adjustments this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/fibre\/489319-herotel-hikes-prices.html\">Herotel<\/a><\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/fibre\/480061-openserve-announces-fibre-speed-upgrades.html\"><strong>Openserve<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/fibre\/482037-metrofibre-networx-announces-massive-fibre-speed-upgrades-and-price-cuts.html\"><strong>Metrofibre<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/fibre\/479165-frogfoot-charges-r750-to-downgrade-after-hiking-prices.html\"><strong>Frogfoot<\/strong><\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/fibre\/478929-frogfoot-and-octotel-increase-fibre-speeds-and-hike-prices.html\"><strong>Octotel<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0have all announced\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/fibre\/481345-openserve-destroyed-in-south-africas-2023-fibre-price-war.html\"><strong>changes to their packages and pricing<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Like other FNOs, we are not immune to rising operational costs, particularly due to ongoing load-shedding. However, through improved efficiency measures, we have been able to minimize the impact.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The FNO said it could not provide specific prices as these vary based on individual ISP offerings. However, it broke down the wholesale price changes as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>50\/50Mbps<\/strong> \u2014 2.1% increase<\/li>\n<li><strong>100\/100Mbps<\/strong> \u2014 1.7% increase<\/li>\n<li><strong>200\/200Mbps<\/strong> \u2014 1.4% increase<\/li>\n<li><strong>500\/500Mbps<\/strong> \u2014 1.3% increase<\/li>\n<li><strong>1,000\/250Mbps<\/strong> \u2014 1.1% increase<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;We cannot comment on individual ISP pricing, as each provider establishes their retail price points based on our wholesale rate and their specific operational costs,&#8221; Vumatel said.<\/p>\n<p>This is evident in the price increase notification Internet service provider Cool Ideas sent to a MyBroadband reader.<\/p>\n<p>The pricing for their 50\/50Mbps fibre connection will increase from R699 to R749 a month from 1 June \u2014 an increase of approximately 7%.<\/p>\n<p>MyBroadband asked Cool Ideas for more information regarding the increase, and it confirmed that Vumatel is dropping installation fees to offset the price change for new customers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Vumatel did implement price increases effective 1 June.
