{"id":49487,"date":"2012-05-08T08:41:38","date_gmt":"2012-05-08T06:41:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=49487"},"modified":"2012-05-08T08:42:45","modified_gmt":"2012-05-08T06:42:45","slug":"samsung-qualcomm-keen-on-wireless-charging","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/49487-samsung-qualcomm-keen-on-wireless-charging.html","title":{"rendered":"Samsung, Qualcomm keen on wireless charging"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><\/strong>Mobile technology companies, <a title=\"Samsung\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/333656-Samsung\">Samsung<\/a> and <a title=\"Qualcomm\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/355674-Qualcomm\">Qualcomm<\/a> have formed an organisation to push for industry-wide adoption of a wireless charging standard.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation, known as the Alliance for Wireless Power (AWP) was announced at the CITA 2012 show in New Orleans on 7 May, and hopes to &#8220;promote global standardization of a wireless power transfer technology.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Qualcomm is no stranger to wireless charging; the company debuted the WiPower wireless charging system back in 2009. Meanwhile, Samsung have noted that they may show a wireless charging accessory with its new Galaxy S III flagship smartphone.<\/p>\n<p>Qi wireless charging technology currently promoted by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) requires wireless charging via two metallic surfaces.
