{"id":498361,"date":"2023-06-30T14:24:44","date_gmt":"2023-06-30T12:24:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=498361"},"modified":"2023-06-30T15:00:19","modified_gmt":"2023-06-30T13:00:19","slug":"whatsapp-getting-a-video-quality-upgrade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/software\/498361-whatsapp-getting-a-video-quality-upgrade.html","title":{"rendered":"WhatsApp getting a video quality upgrade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WhatsApp has started rolling out a feature that allows users of its beta Android app to send higher-quality videos, <a href=\"https:\/\/wabetainfo.com\/whatsapp-beta-for-android-2-23-14-10-whats-new\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>WABetaInfo reports<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/smartphones\/495065-big-whatsapp-photo-quality-upgrade.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>publication recently reported<\/strong><\/a> that an &#8220;HD&#8221; setting for photos was being rolled out to WhatsApp Android beta testers.<\/p>\n<p>With WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.14.10, select users have been given the ability to use a similar setting for sending videos.<\/p>\n<p>WhatsApp&#8217;s fairly aggressive media compression helps to send files more quickly while consuming less mobile data.<\/p>\n<p>However, it radically reduces the quality of the media, a point of pain for multimedia creators who want their content to retain its original quality.<\/p>\n<p>Like the HD option for photos, the feature for video sharing strikes a balance between quality and efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>It keeps the resolution of the original video but still applies some compression to keep the file size relatively small.<\/p>\n<p>The setting is currently available in the media editor.<\/p>\n<p>In the example shown by WABetaInfo, a 30-second clip with the existing standard quality option was compressed to 6.3MB and a resolution of 416 x 880.
