TV switch-on imminent?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In an e-mail that was sent to <a title=\"DSTV\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/383647-DStv\">DStv<\/a> subscribers in the Cape Town region, <a title=\"MultiChoice\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/216214-MultiChoice\">MultiChoice<\/a> warns that the switch on of <a title=\"Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT)\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/289647-DTT-Digital-Terrestrial-Television\">digital terrestrial television (DTT)<\/a> may affect the picture quality of certain viewers from 15 May 2012.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSentech is switching on transmitters around South Africa, in preparation for the launch of digital terrestrial television in South Africa,\u201d MultiChoice said. \u201cThese transmitters could interfere with your picture quality on DStv.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After a jostling of standards and deadlines, Sentech was given until March 2012 to cover 60% of South Africa\u2019s population for DTT using the DVB-T2 standard.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued by the <a title=\"Department of Communications (DoC)\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/289205-DoC-Department-of-Communications\">Department of Communications (DoC)<\/a> recently, <a title=\"Sentech\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/220208-Sentech\">Sentech<\/a> said that they have hit this target.<\/p>\n<p>The DoC said in the same statement that it is committed to switching of DVB-T2 in SA, <a title=\"Dina Pule\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/210235-Dina-Pule\">Dina Pule<\/a>, Minister of Communications, hasn\u2019t set a new public target for the switching off of South Africa\u2019s analogue broadcasting signals.<\/p>\n<p>The previous Minister, <a title=\"Roy Padayachie\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/226995-Roy-Padayachie\">Roy Padayachie<\/a>, set a new analogue switch-off date for December 2013 after the original deadline was missed, but Pule has said that delays in the switch-on of digital broadcasts will push this date back.<\/p>\n<p>Sentech was asked for comment, but did not respond by the time of publication.<\/p>\n<h3
