The native token of one of crypto\u2019s top decentralised exchanges tumbled after the platform said it had been \u201cexploited\u201d as a result of a vulnerability in a programming language.<\/p>\n
Curve Finance, like other decentralised finance projects in crypto, relies on different kinds of software built on top of blockchain technology.<\/p>\n
A glitch in a particular version of\u00a0Vyper<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 a programming language similar to Python and widely used in DeFi applications \u2014 led to the exploit, Curve\u00a0tweeted<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>Sunday.<\/p>\n Curve Finance\u2019s CRV token has shed about 15% since the problem emerged and was trading at approximately 63 US cents as of 9:30 a.m. in Singapore on Monday, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.<\/p>\n BlockSec, which provides security audit services for crypto software,\u00a0estimated<\/a><\/strong> the hack had already led to more than $40 million (R706 million) in losses.<\/p>\n Tarun Chitra<\/a><\/strong>, chief executive officer and founder of crypto risk modelling firm Gauntlet, estimated the exploiter made away with about $20 million of CRV and a version of Ether.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are assessing the situation and will update the community as things develop,\u201d Curve said.<\/p>\n Curve Finance is the largest decentralized exchange after Uniswap, according to data provider and aggregator DeFiLlama.<\/p>\n Curve\u2019s founder\u00a0Michael Egorov<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n CRV is used as collateral on a decentralized lending service known as\u00a0Aave<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n Gauntlet\u2019s Chitra said that so far there were no signs of \u201cbad loans\u201d on the Aave platform due to the slide in CRV.
