{"id":507622,"date":"2023-09-12T13:39:31","date_gmt":"2023-09-12T11:39:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=507622"},"modified":"2023-09-12T13:46:57","modified_gmt":"2023-09-12T11:46:57","slug":"threads-blocking-potentially-sensitive-topics-in-search","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/507622-threads-blocking-potentially-sensitive-topics-in-search.html","title":{"rendered":"Threads blocking &#8220;potentially sensitive&#8221; topics in search"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Meta Platforms is not showing search results for what it deems &#8220;potentially sensitive&#8221; topics in its recently launched Twitter (now &#8220;X&#8221;) rival Threads.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2023\/09\/11\/threads-covid-coronavirus-searches-blocked\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Washington Post<\/strong><\/a> was the first to discover that that app is blocking searches of terms related to the Covid-19 pandemic &#8220;covid&#8221;, &#8220;covid-19&#8221;, &#8220;coronavirus&#8221;,&#8221; vaccines&#8221;, and &#8220;covid vaccines&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>It also prevents users from searching for &#8220;gore&#8221;, &#8220;nude&#8221;, and &#8220;sex&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Meta first added <a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.net\/@zuck\/post\/Cw5YM82BzBF?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>search functionality for Threads posts<\/strong><\/a> last week, roughly two months after launch.
